Air fryers crisp by blowing hot air over food, so the amount you can spread in one layer matters more than quart numbers. The Pro LE’s square basket gives more usable floor than round baskets of similar capacity, in a footprint that fits under cabinets.
Controls are straightforward and a shake reminder prompts you halfway, which is the single habit that most improves results.
The AF101 has been a best-seller for years because it does the basics well: it heats quickly, crisps evenly, and the basket and crisper plate are dishwasher-safe. The low 105°F setting doubles as a dehydrator.
Four quarts is enough for one or two people. Larger meals mean cooking in batches.
Opening the drawer to check food dumps heat and slows cooking. The ClearCook window and internal light let you see when fries are done, which is surprisingly useful while you’re learning cook times.
At 6 quarts it fits family portions. It’s larger on the counter, so measure first.
Food crisps in a single layer. A wide, square basket fits more than a tall, round one of the same quart rating.
4 qt for 1–2 people, 5–6 qt for 2–4, and 6 qt or a dual-basket model for larger families.
Presets are just temperature and time shortcuts. A clear temperature and timer control is what matters.
Look for a removable, dishwasher-safe basket and plate. Non-PFAS ceramic coatings are increasingly common.
Essentially, yes: a fan circulates hot air in a compact space, so it preheats quickly and crisps faster than most full-size ovens.
One or two people: about 4 quarts. Two to four: 5–6 quarts. Families: 6 quarts or more, or a dual-basket model.
Usually, for small portions, because they heat a smaller space and cook faster. For large batches the difference shrinks.
It uses far less oil than deep frying. Browning any starchy food at high heat creates some acrylamide, so aim for golden, not dark brown.
Perforated liners can help with cleanup, but never preheat with a loose liner inside; it can blow into the heating element.
We compared capacity, basket shape and coating, controls, functions and cleaning requirements from manufacturer specifications, and weighed them against common owner complaints: small usable area, coating wear and hard-to-clean baskets.
