For a two-person household the Ninja AF101 (4 qt) is the one to buy: small footprint, a 105–400°F range that includes dehydrating, and a dishwasher-safe basket. If you want to cook a whole dinner for two at once, chicken thighs plus vegetables, the COSORI Pro LE (5 qt) gives you a wider square basket without a family-size footprint.

Two people rarely need more than one layer of food at a time, and one layer is what an air fryer crisps well. The AF101’s 4-quart basket holds two portions of fries, a pound or so of wings, or two fish fillets, which covers most weeknight jobs for a couple.
Its 105–400°F range runs low enough to dry apple chips or jerky, a feature many small models skip, and at 1550 W it gets to temperature quickly. Both the basket and the crisper plate go in the dishwasher, which makes daily use for two painless.
The limit is the round basket: a full main plus a side at the same time is a squeeze, so you will cook in two rounds when you want both.
Quart ratings mislead: what matters is floor area, because food crisps in a single layer. The Pro LE’s square basket gives noticeably more usable floor than a round 4-quart, enough for two chicken thighs with a handful of broccoli, or a full tray of roasted potatoes.
That makes it the better choice if your air fryer replaces the oven for dinner rather than just doing sides. It still fits under standard cabinets.
It takes more counter space than the Ninja and costs more. If you mostly reheat leftovers and cook snacks, that extra size goes unused.
Most sizing advice says 4 quarts for one or two people and 5–6 quarts for two to four. For couples, the real question is whether you cook a whole meal at once.
A square 5-quart basket holds more in a single layer than a round 4-quart. Single layers crisp; stacked food steams.
Small air fryers are easier to leave out. Measure the space under your cabinets, leaving room for the exhaust at the back.
A removable, dishwasher-safe basket and plate make you more likely to use it daily.
Presets are shortcuts for time and temperature. A clear temperature and timer control is what matters.
About 4 quarts for sides, snacks and small mains; around 5 quarts if you want to cook a full meal for two in one batch.
For reheating and snacks, maybe, but most couples find 2 quarts too small for a main dish. Four quarts is a safer minimum.
For small portions, an air fryer usually uses less energy than heating a full oven because it heats a smaller space and cooks faster.
Usually not. Whole chickens need 5–6 quarts or more; check the manufacturer’s guidance.
It uses far less oil than deep frying. Browning starchy food creates some acrylamide, so aim for golden, not dark brown, as the FDA suggests.
We started from the capacity guidance in our main air fryer guide and the manufacturers’ published specs (capacity, basket shape, power, temperature range, dishwasher-safe parts), then asked what a two-person household cooks most often.
